Michael Derrick

Michael was born and raised in the DFW area. He graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas in 2010 with a degree in Philosophy. He attended law school at Washington University in St. Louis and was awarded a Juris Doctor in 2015. Michael was first exposed to the criminal justice system after enrolling in his school’s Public Defender Clinic, the very same year Michael Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer only several miles from campus. Michael witnessed firsthand the aftermath and community outcry that followed, inspiring him to begin advocating for criminal law reform and the rights of the accused.

He was fortunate enough to learn under some of the most prominent trial attorneys and legal scholars within the field. Michael has dedicated his career to this cause. Following law school, he returned home to the Dallas area and has continued fighting for his clients ever since. The majority of his casework has focused on DWI, Family Violence, other misdemeanors, felony Drug Possession, Aggravated Assault, and other state-level felonies.
